Vedic Astrology + Ayurveda = Yoga?
Vedic astrology is a “sister science” of Ayurveda. They’re both part of Yoga, the divine system that aims to “yoke” the body and mind together to create greater self-realization.
You can think of Vedic astrology as a science of healing the mind and Ayurveda a science of healing the body. As the body and mind are interrelated, so are the sciences. Where Vedic astrology can identify problems with the mind that give rise to imbalances in the body, Ayurveda can identify problems with the body that lead to imbalances in the mind.
When I look at your chart, I can identify which planets might be causing general overall health issues. I’m speaking simply, but the chart shows the very complex relationship between the houses of the chart and the planets, their karmas, and how this sum total is affecting your body, mind, and spirit. I’m reading your karma, essentially. Karma will manifest as both body and mind afflictions.
For example, if your chart skews strongly towards airy planets like Mercury and Saturn, you might be tending towards Vata, or “air” imbalances. In Ayurveda, Vata is one the biological humors. Vata is the active, mental, drying influence. When you have a lot of “vata” in your chart, you likely have an active, quick mind. If there aren’t other influences to balance this, it can lead to mental instability, which can further manifest in “drying” influences of the body like dry hair or skin, or airy diseases like arthritis.
You should always refer to an Ayurvedic practitioner for specific diet and herb advice. However, as a Vedic astrologer, I can certainly help diagnose you as a “Vata,” “Kapha,” “Pitta,” and so on, simply based on your chart, and help you identify general Ayurvedic remedies that can start you on the right road.
Here’s a rough guide to start:
Vata is too high:
This happens when you airy planets like Saturn, Rahu, Mercury predominate in your chart.
Eat sweet, sour, salty, and pungent tastes.
Avoid pungent astringent, and bitter tastes.
Choose mild spices. Avoid hot spices.
Use tonic herbs like Ashwagandha and shatavari.
Kapha too high:
This happens when watery planets Moon, Venus, Jupiter predominate in your chart.
Eat pungent, astringent, bitter tastes.
Avoid sweet, salty, sour, and oily foods. Limit dairy.
Use hot spices like ginger, pepper, or cayenne.
Use tonics like Trikatu.
Pitta too high:
This happens when fiery planets Sun, Mars, Ketu predominate in your chart.
Eat bitter, astringent, sweet tastes.
Use less salt, hot spices, and sour tastes.
Eat more raw food.
Try tonics like gotu kola. Try turmeric and coriander.
